Deck Blanchette

Here are a few pictures of a gray Ipé wood deck we built a year ago for the Blanchette family of Montreal in the Tétreauville borough. Ipé wood will naturally become silver gray after only 1 year of UV exposure from the sun. Since Ipé wood is relatively expensive compared to cedar, only the floor and the steps were made with Ipé. The skirt, the bench and the screens are made of cedar. Cedar will also develop a natural gray patina after a few years in the sun. If you do not want to wait until Mother Nature does her work, know that it’s now possible to accelerate the graying of cedar using an environmentally friendly and easy-to-apply product: LifeTime Wood Treatment (www.valhalco.com).
