Accelerate the graying of a cedar deck

When the wood of your outdoor structures (deck, fence, shed…) ages, it is exposed to the sun and the elements, it creates a patina, it becomes gray. This aged wood effect is for sure a real asset and adds to its charm. The beautiful gray color that time leaves on the wood is sometimes so sought after that some new woods are tinted to display the raw look of old barns.

The authentic character of aged wood

This gray aspect gives character to the wood, blending beautifully with modern buildings and their clean lines as with traditional houses with a retro design. It is now possible to accelerate wood aging while continuing to protect and maintain it. While nothing beats the work of time, you can give Mother Nature a boost by speeding up the process. Two wood maintenance and protection products provide the silver look of the graying cedar deck: LifeTime Wood Treatment and Sansin Wood Sealer.

Accelerate aging by protecting your deck

The big advantage of these two products is that they are natural, non-toxic wood preservatives. They beautify the wood of decks or exterior (and interior) constructions while increasing their lifespan. Lifetime Wood Treatment is composed of vegetable and mineral elements, which are diluted with water. By penetrating into the fibers of the wood they consolidate and the wood mineralizes, which preserves it.Lifetime Wood Treatment will alter the original color of the wood, and depending on the essence, will become after about 6 months a beautiful silver gray. The product is suitable for all untreated or pressure treated wood. The second product, Sansin Wood Sealer, protects and gives a naturally aged appearance of barn wood. This water repellent product allows the wood to age evenly while repelling UV and moisture. The absence of pigments in the product is what allows graying in a few weeks. To speed up the process, you can add a color color “barn wood”. The wood breathes, the product does not peel on the surface, and it is enough to maintain it to iron a layer on the surface every 2-3 years.
